The Miracles of Jesus Christ (revised post)

Jesus Christ performed many supernatural miracles during his time on earth. These miracles can be categorized into exorcisms, healing, resurrection of the dead and control over nature. New Testament gospels record them in the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. The first three books record his miracles with the goal of revealing his authority as God's son, while the book of John uses those miracles to explain his ministry.

Numerous miracles were performed by Jesus while he was a young boy. Though they do not appear in those New Testament books, they are recorded in other 2nd century texts. Here are few of them:
  • Rich young man raised from the dead
  • Water controlled and purified
  • Made birds of clay and brought them to life
  • Resurrected dead playmate Zeno
  • Healed a woodcutter's foot
  • Held water in his cloak
  • Harvested 100 bushels of wheat from a single seed
  • Stretched a board that was short for carpentry
  • Resurrected a teacher he earlier struck down
  • Healed James' viper bite Infancy
  • Resurrected a dead child Infancy
  • Resurrected a dead man Infancy
  • Miraculous Virgin Birth verified by midwife
John, who walked with Jesus, towards the end of his gospel says,
John 21:25 Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.
Hence, we are aware of only a handful of miracles as they appear in those four gospels. The biggest of Jesus' miracles is that he died on the cross and on the third day, he came back to life. The good news is that he is still alive!

The main factor for Jesus to perform miracles upon others was the presence of Faith.

Faith produced miracles;
Miracles produced faith.

We read that wherever there was no faith, miracles did not work. Peter was able to walk a short distance over the water, because of this faith. He then drowned. In his hometown, people did not believe Jesus very much, and he did not perform many miracles there, due to their lack of faith.
Matthew 13:58 And he did not do many miracles there because of their lack of faith.
When we have complete faith in Jesus Chris, he performs miracles in our lives too!
