Only One Life, Twill Soon Be Past

A poem by Charles T Studd (1860 - 1931)

“Two little lines I heard one day,
Traveling along life’s busy way;
Bringing conviction to my heart,
And from my mind would not depart;
Only one life, ’twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last.

Only one life, yes only one,
Soon will its fleeting hours be done;
Then, in ‘that day’ my Lord to meet,
And stand before His Judgement seat;
Only one life,’twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last.

Only one life, the still small voice,
Gently pleads for a better choice
Bidding me selfish aims to leave,
And to God’s holy will to cleave;
Only one life, ’twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last.

Only one life, a few brief years,
Each with its burdens, hopes, and fears;
Each with its clays I must fulfill,
living for self or in His will;
Only one life, ’twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last.

When this bright world would tempt me sore,
When Satan would a victory score;
When self would seek to have its way,
Then help me Lord with joy to say;
Only one life, ’twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last.

Give me Father, a purpose deep,
In joy or sorrow Thy word to keep;
Faithful and true what e’er the strife,
Pleasing Thee in my daily life;
Only one life, ’twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last.

Oh let my love with fervor burn,
And from the world now let me turn;
Living for Thee, and Thee alone,
Bringing Thee pleasure on Thy throne;
Only one life, “twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last.

Only one life, yes only one,
Now let me say,”Thy will be done”;
And when at last I’ll hear the call,
I know I’ll say “twas worth it all”;
Only one life,’twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last. ”

— extra stanza —

Only one life, ’twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last.
And when I am dying, how happy I’ll be,
If the lamp of my life has been burned out for Thee.”

Charles T Studd attended Eaton and Cambridge. He was a British cricketer and missionary who was confronted with the question, "What is all the fame and flattery worth ... when a man comes to face eternity?"

Sneak Preview of Heaven

When Steve Jobs designed apple computers, he was keen on combining hardware and software which came from the same manufacturer for best results. This hardware/software convergence proved to be vital in making ipod a huge hit. He repeated the same winning formula for Mac, and ipad - and the rest is history.

Lord is the best artist and architect - just look around the animal kingdom and observe those variety of species He has created on land, air and water. The more you get to know Our Lord, the more you will appreciate His wisdom and sense of humor. His creations walk, swim and fly in the same medium - land, water and air which are once again His own creation. Hence they all thrive in such environment.

The heaven Lord is designing for us will contain animals of all sorts. It is going to be clad in all it's mighty splendor. It will be colorful, brilliant, beautiful and incredible. The city will be studded with precious stones and jewels for us to enjoy. When apostle John had a sneak preview of heaven, he wrote:
Revelation 21: 2-7 I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”
He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life. Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children.
Yes, you are God's child - go claim your place in heaven. Fight the good fight and emerge victorious.

Here - read this and may this psalm strengthen your bones and soul.

Psalm 19
For the director of music. A psalm of David.

1 The heavens declare the glory of God;
    the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
2 Day after day they pour forth speech;
    night after night they reveal knowledge.
3 They have no speech, they use no words;
    no sound is heard from them.
4 Yet their voice goes out into all the earth,
    their words to the ends of the world.
In the heavens God has pitched a tent for the sun.
5     It is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber,
    like a champion rejoicing to run his course.
6 It rises at one end of the heavens
    and makes its circuit to the other;
    nothing is deprived of its warmth.
7 The law of the Lord is perfect,
    refreshing the soul.
The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy,
    making wise the simple.
8 The precepts of the Lord are right,
    giving joy to the heart.
The commands of the Lord are radiant,
    giving light to the eyes.
9 The fear of the Lord is pure,
    enduring forever.
The decrees of the Lord are firm,
    and all of them are righteous.
10 They are more precious than gold,
    than much pure gold;
they are sweeter than honey,
    than honey from the honeycomb.
11 By them your servant is warned;
    in keeping them there is great reward.
12 But who can discern their own errors?
    Forgive my hidden faults.
13 Keep your servant also from willful sins;
    may they not rule over me.
Then I will be blameless,
    innocent of great transgression.
14 May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart
    be pleasing in your sight,
    Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.

Guide to heaven

Which was the best vacation spot you've ever been to? Yes, that was a fantastic one. Heaven is going to be far superior to that one. When you moved from one place to another, you made new friends at the new place. You then tend to forget about those old ones you met on the way. Heaven is a marvelous place where all your friends, both old and new, will be present with a long lasting relationship.

In heaven, you will have the same wonderful body you now have - in it's best shape and form. The proof is that when the resurrected Jesus appeared to his disciples, he let them touch and feel him. This is going to be a young vibrant, robust and healthy body which will never age. There is our reason to keep our body holy.

When you get to heaven, you will be able to embrace your friends and relatives with this wonderful body. If it's been a long time since you saw them you could even cry with joy while hugging them. You could speak to your friends for hours and hours, laugh with them and watch their smile.

Did you know - God is the best party host in this whole wide universe, and He is holding a banquet at His house. His party is unlike any of those we've held, heard or been to. He is inviting us to join Him for a non-stop party, where those very best people who walked this planet could be found. Let's hurry and get there.

While we are still here on earth, our human feelings need expressions in order to move forward everyday. It is often quite difficult to express our deepest thoughts, fears and emotions to those whom we are not emotionally close. We need a safe place and a trustworthy companion to express our feelings, to say what needs to be said without judgement, where we can put our fears and tears to rest. The best person I can suggest is Jesus Christ, who also knows the way to heaven.
Hebrews 2:11 Both the one who makes people holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters.
Let's work everyday towards getting closer to him, so that we belong to his holy family.

Heaven Awaits

I've traveled this long road of life.
I've seen happiness; I've seen strife.
I've served God from place to place,
Telling the story, saved by grace.

Many miles I have traveled here,
Some sad, some filled with cheer,
But my weary soul will feel its best
When one day it enters Heaven's rest.

I must serve the Lord here below
Until He says, "It's time to go."
I must go about, trying to do good,
Pleasing God the way I should.

Going home will really be great,
But I should work here while I wait.
Still I am yearning more and more
To make my trip to that golden shore.
