Safe Roads

Once upon a time, an Emperor decided to walk around his kingdom to see how his people were doing. Just few steps out of his palace, his foot was injured by a sharp stone lying unseen on the road. He thought, "So the roads in my kingdom are quite unsafe. I have to get them fixed."

The Emperor then summoned all his ministers. He ordered to undertake an enormous project to have all the road in his kingdom to be paved with the best of leathers. As soon as it was ordered, the ministers started getting those necessary things ready, they arranged thousands of workers to labor, businesses soared and several people started getting into cattle business only to provide cows for the sake of leather. Analysts projected cattle sale and road construction as opportunities.

While preparations and plans were being laid out to cover the entire roads of the kingdom with leather, a wise man arrived at the palace. He consulted with the Emperor, conducted a root cause analysis for this project and said, "O Powerful One, why would you have so much leather just to cover the whole roads spreading throughout the country, when what actually you need is just two pieces of leather to protect your own feet?"

The Emperor thought for a while and the idea made sense to him. Since that momentous time he gave orders to scrap the project and make what we call 'sandals'.

Moral: To make this world a comfortable place for us to live in, all we need to do is to change our perspectives, our heart, and ourselves, rather than changing the entire world.

Updates - Nov 23

This Sunday, I will pass those answer sheets from your mid term exam.

On Dec 2nd, it's Sunday school day and couple of 12th graders are giving a speech. There will be a group song and few other activities as well.

It was announced that on Dec 16th we will have our Christmas program, due to the presence of a Bishop that day. With certain school still open the following week, I am not sure how students will have the time to prepare and participate on 16th if someone cares about staging quality programs. We won't be doing any class program and if you are interested, please join the youth team. In any case, I will not be there on the 16th.

I was supposed to embark on a small journey but have postponed it. Hope you are enjoying this weekend. Talk to you soon.

One Hour

A rabbi had three students,
And posed them a question:
"If you had one hour
remaining in your lifetime,
What would you do
in that one hour?"

The first one read and studied,
then answered the question:
"I would spend that hour
studying the Torah."

The second one closed his eyes,
then answered the question:
"I would spend that hour
in the ecstasy of prayer."

The third one looked at the rabbi,
then answered the question:
"I would spend that hour
loving my family."

The rabbi looked at his students,
stroked his beard, and smiled;
"Each of you has given
a deep and holy answer."

But the students turned to the rabbi
and asked him the question:
"What would you do,
in your last hour?"

"Me? I would spend that hour,
doing what I'd been doing.
Doing what I'd been doing,
for all of life is sacred."

The rabbi looked at the students,
stroked his beard and smiled:
"Doing what I had been doing,
for all of life is sacred."

Long time ago, there lived a wise man who traveled extensively. One day, as he passed near a village, he was approached by a woman who told him of a sick child nearby. She requested him to help this child.

The wise man agreed and came to the village. A large crowd gathered around him, since such a man was a rare sight to the villagers. One woman brought the sick child to him, and he said a prayer over her.

After observing this, one man yelled from the crowd, "Do you really think your prayer will help her, when medicine has failed?"

"You know nothing about such things! You are a stupid fool!" said the wise man to the one in the crowd. man.

The man became very angry after hearing these words of insult and his face grew hot and red. He was about to say something, or even strike out at the wise man.

After observing this, the wise man walked over to the man in the crows and said, "If one word of mine has such power as to make you so angry and hot, may not another have the power to heal?"

That day, the wise man healed two people.

Black Friday sale starts tonight

I have a message waiting for you.

Black Friday online sales starts tonight  - Kohl's Online Black Friday starts Tonight at Midnight. Few stores open their doors on Thanksgiving Thursday. For instance, Big Lots start their black Friday deals at 7 AM Thursday, Toys R Us and Sears open at 8 PM Thursday.

Across the nation, Walmart employees are complaining they aren’t getting paid enough, and are planning to hold a 'Black Friday walk-out'. If you are not following the news closely (like me), then let us not be surprised when we arrive at Walmart to purchase all our Christmas related stuff. This year I heard Walmart is selling 60-inch LED TVs at $599 and a 15.6-inch laptop for $179. Also, I heard rumors that they may open doors at 8 PM Thu.

For a complete listing of who opens when, check out this website with latest info.

If you like to do some homework and be smart, here are few handy websites to map out your path for the best deals you are after. is attracting customers with several offers for their online sale on Friday. Keep a close watch on their offerings as well. If you are like me and enjoy getting out to the mall, join the club.

Happy Shopping.

Election Tech 2012

Here is a piece of totally useless information:

Imagine you're launching a company and only have six months to deliver a product. You face a competitor that has been in your industry four years longer than you with twice your staff and twice the budget. If you don't make your deadline, you're out of business.

That, in a nutshell, was the situation facing the technology team for Mitt Romney's presidential campaign. The Obama for America (OFA) organization had the advantage: it didn't have to wade through the primary season first, allowing OFA's technology team to focus on building an infrastructure. Based on an Ars analysis of the Romney campaign's financial reports, Romney's team had less to work with and passed the lion's share of technology-focused spending directly to advertising companies and telemarketers. This left Team Romney's tech squad with only a fraction of the budget for consulting, services, and infrastructure.

Here is that story.

And... if that interests you,

How Team Obama's tech efficiency left Romney IT in dust. Click here to read more if you care about numbers.

Firefox 17 is available

Mozilla Firefox 17 is available and can be downloaded. The latest version is available for windows, mac and linux. Click here to read more about the article

Click here to download Firefox 17 from the official website or FTP site.

Firefox users who browse fb frequently, this time there is an icon which can access fb in one click.

Another interesting feature - it searches for appropriate plug-ins. Remember when you try to play something using flash or so, a message appearing "your plug-in is not outdated" and you wonder - where and how do I look for the matching plug in.  Most folks just give up and move on. This version of firefox has something called 'Awesome Bar' which searches for the appropriate plug in.

If you are tech savvy, click here to read more about the technical stuff.

Mozilla Firefox is one of the best web browsers out there.

Flower of the Sun

Arise beloved sunflower!
Share your smile with me this hour;

Sway and dance upon the breeze,
Fill my heart with gentle ease,
before you turn your brilliant face
upon the sun's golden gaze
and trace his steps across the sky
as the adoring child of his eye.

Around me, spread your leaves and grow!
Converse with me so I may know;
How you came upon this place
to fill my days with humble grace;

Of the tiny suns that you disperse
from your petalled universe,
that will journey before the day is done
to find their own place in the sun.

Turning life into a celebration!
All from the seeds of your creation.

Before you turn your radiant crown
to seek the one to whom you're bound,
teach me the wisdom that sparks the glow
of these splendid miracles that shine below.

Believe in yourself

There may be days when you get up in the morning
And things aren't the way you had hoped they would be,
That's when you have to tell yourself that things will get better.

There are times when people disappoint you and let you down,
But those are the times when you must remind yourself
To trust your own judgments and opinions,
To keep your life focused on believing in yourself
And all that you are capable of.

There will be challenges to face and changes to make in your life,
and it is up to you to accept them.

Constantly keep yourself headed in the right direction for you.

It may not be easy at times,
But in those times of struggle you will find
A stronger sense of who you are,
So when the days come that are filled with frustration
And unexpected responsibilities,
Remember to believe in yourself and all you want your life to be,
Because the challenges and changes will only help you to find the goals
That you know are meant to come true for you.

Keep believing in yourself.

Religious believers have made pilgrimages to sacred sites since ancient times. Today Christians, Jews, Muslims, Hindus and Buddhists, as well as members of other religions, still travel to shrines for a variety of purposes. It is supposed to be a reflective journey, which allows us to walk in trust and appreciation of what is happening in and around us.

Some people go on pilgrimage when they want to go on a special journey to do prayer and to seek supernatural aid. Certain believers go on pilgrimage as a sign of gratitude, to give thanks for a prayer that has been answered.

It makes more sense when people are doing it for the sake of someone whom they truly care - loved ones, children, grandchildren and so forth, on reaching/about to reach a major milestone in life.

One Person

Below is a conversation that took place between a college professor and a student in an evening class sometime ago. The professor said to the students, “Let's play a game, who'll be the volunteer for it?”

One girl came forward, and her name was Galaxy.

The professor said, “Please list those 20 most important names in your life on the blackboard!”

Galaxy listed her family, her friends, her colleagues and her neighbors.

The professor said, “Please delete the most unimportant name to your consideration.”

Galaxy deleted one of the names of her neighbors.

The professor said, “Please delete one more.” Galaxy deleted one of her colleagues.

The professor went on the same requests. Galaxy kept on the deleting names until there were 3 names left on the blackboard. They were her parents (Dad & Mom), her husband and her son. The atmosphere was really quiet in the class. All those students gazed at the professor and Galaxy silently and they knew it was not just a game anymore.

The professor said to Galaxy calmly, “Please delete one.”

Galaxy hesitated to make the difficult choice.

She deleted the names of her parents.

“Please delete one more.” said the professor.

Galaxy was startled. Trembling with her hand, she slowly and firmly deleted the name of her son. After that, she cried out painfully. The professor let her rest for awhile and asked, “The most closet ones should be your parents and your son. Your parents are the ones to nurture you. Your son is the one you gave birth to.
And you can find a new husband again. On the contrary, why is he the most important one?”

The class was silent and everyone waited for her response.

Galaxy calmed down and said slowly, “As time elapses, my parents will pass away before me. Surely, my son will also leave me and go when he grows up. The only one who truly shares my entire life with is MY HUSBAND.”

All the students stood up to applaud for her in a great excitement.

The people whom we meet in our lives - they come, they go. Some stay for awhile, others stay forever.
But, who is the one and only one who truly shares your entire life with?

On Teaching

Then said a teacher, "Speak to us of Teaching."

And he said:

No man can reveal to you aught but that which already lies half asleep in the dawning of our knowledge.

The teacher who walks in the shadow of the temple, among his followers, gives not of his wisdom but rather of his faith and his lovingness.

If he is indeed wise he does not bid you enter the house of wisdom, but rather leads you to the threshold of your own mind.

The astronomer may speak to you of his understanding of space, but he cannot give you his understanding.

The musician may sing to you of the rhythm which is in all space, but he cannot give you the ear which arrests the rhythm nor the voice that echoes it.

And he who is versed in the science of numbers can tell of the regions of weight and measure, but he cannot conduct you thither.

For the vision of one man lends not its wings to another man.

And even as each one of you stands alone in God's knowledge, so must each one of you be alone in his knowledge of God and in his understanding of the earth.
