If I knew

If I knew it would be the last time
That I'd see you fall asleep,
I would tuck you in more tightly
and pray the Lord, your soul to keep.

If I knew it would be the last time
that I see you walk out the door,
I would give you a hug and kiss
and call you back for one more.

If I knew it would be the last time
I'd hear your voice lifted up in praise,
I would video tape each action and word,
so I could play them back day after day.

If I knew it would be the last time
I could spare an extra minute
to stop and say " I love you,"
instead of assuming you would KNOW I do.

If I knew it would be the last time
I would be ther to share your day,
Well I'm sure you'll have so many more,
so I can let just this one slip away.

For surely there's always tomorrow
to make up for an oversight,
and we always get a second chance
to make everything just right.

There will always be another day
to say " I love you,"
And certainly there's another chance
to say our " Anything I can do?"

But just in case I might be wrong,
and today is all I get,
I'd like to say how much I love you
and hope we never forget.

Tomorrow is not promised to anyone,
young or old alike,
And today may be the last chance
you get to hold your loved one tight.

So if you're waiting for tomorrow,
why not do it today?
For if tomorrow never comes,
you'll surely regret the day,

That you didn't take that extra time
for a smile, hug, or a kiss
and you were to busy to grant someone,
what turned out to be their one last wish.

So hold your loved ones close today,
and whisper in their ear,
Tell them you'll alway hold them dear
Take time to say " I'm sorry,"
"Please forgive me," "Thank you," or " It's okay."

And if tomorrow never comes,
you'll have no regrets about today.

Sept 14 - Discovery of the Holy Cross

We celebrate the discovery of the Holy Cross on Sept 14th. Our church held Holy Qurbana on the eve of 13th, and I was able to attend it - going directly from work.

Several stories circulate about the origin of the wood. One account of the this cross says that it came from a tree that grew from part of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, - the tree that Adam ate of, that Seth (3rd son of Adam & Eve) planted on Adam's grave where it endured until the time of King Solomon - the great biologist.

The tree was cut down and the wood was used to build a bridge over which the Queen of Sheba passed, during her journey to meet King Solomon. She was so struck by the portent contained in the timber of the bridge that she fell on her knees and reverenced it. She told him that a piece of wood from the bridge would bring about the replacement of God's Covenant with the Jewish people, by a new order.

Some believe that after fourteen generations, the wood taken from the bridge was fashioned into the Cross used to crucify Christ.

Regardless of these stories, what joy Queen Helena must have experienced when she discovered such a priceless treasure!!

Smart Thinking

My dad gave me one dollar bill
‘Cause I’m his smartest son,
And I swapped it for two shiny quarters
‘Cause two is more then one!

And then I took the quarters
And traded them to Lou
For three dimes– I guess he didn’t know
That three is more than two!

Just then, along came old blind Bates
And just ’cause he can’t see
He gave me four nickels for my three dimes,
And four is more than three!

And I took the nickels to Hiram Coombs
Down at the seed-feed store,
And the fool gave me five pennies for them,
And five is more than four!

And I went and showed my dad,
And he got red in the cheeks
And closed his eyes and shook his head–
Too proud of me to speak!

Another day

Another day is dawning
Another day’s begun
Another day to turn to God
and pray, “Thy will be done”

A day to slay doubt’s dragon,
To know within your soul
That as you give yourself to Him
He’ll bless and make you whole.

A day to live with purpose
A day to show you care
When others turn to you distraught
Confused or in despair

A day to share God’s blessings
In quiet countless ways
That touch the heart with hope and joy
And brighten cloudy days

A day for sweet rejoicing
For gratitude and praise
Because His love enfolds you
Both now, and all your days.

May every activity that you take up today, yield wonderful results.

Celebrated the Birthday of St. Mary

I just returned from church after Sunday school and a teachers' meeting.  As discussed in the class, we had special prayers celebrating the birthday of St. Mary - not sure how many understood it.

Every time we were reciting the 'Hail Mary... " during our service today, I was instead saying in my mind, "Happy Birthday Mary...." We had lots of payasam and I got home some too!!

Once again, Wish you a wonderful birthday, St. Mary.  May your prayers be a strong hold for us.

Celebrating St. Mary's birthday

There are two families that I have been fascinated about and wanting to learn about everything and everybody.  St. Mary's family happens to be one of them.  This is one of the families that's been abundantly blessed by the heavens and the grace and presence of the Holy Spirit is always visible with every member of this family.

Joachim and Anne with St. Mary at a young age.

This morning, I am heading to church to celebrate the birthday of St. Mary and to remember those wonderful qualities she possessed, the way she led her life, the hardships she had to face bringing up her son Jesus, and many others.

St. Mary - we wish you a wonderful birthday.
