13 Folds

Every American citizen has said this at least once: "I Pledge Allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

You may have seen the US flag been folded as well.  The folding of a US flag incorporates 13 folds.  Specific meanings have been ascribed for those 13 folds.

The first fold of our flag is a symbol of life.

The second fold is a symbol of our belief in eternal life.

The third fold is made in honor and remembrance of the veterans departing our ranks who gave a portion of their lives for the defense of our country to attain peace throughout the world.

The fourth fold represents our weaker nature, for as American citizens trusting in God, it is to Him we turn in times of peace as well as in time of war for His divine guidance.

The fifth fold is a tribute to our country, for in the words of Stephen Decatur, "Our Country, in dealing with other countries may she always be right; but it is still our country, right or wrong."

The sixth fold is for where our hearts lie. It is with our heart that we pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands one Nation under God, indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for all.

The seventh fold is a tribute to our Armed Forces, for it is through the Armed Forces that we protect our country and our flag against all her enemies, whether they are found within or without the boundaries of our republic.

The eighth fold is a tribute to the one who entered into the valley of the shadow of death, that we might see the light of day, and to honor mother, for whom it flies on Mother's Day.

The ninth fold is a tribute to womanhood; for it has been through their faith, their love, loyalty and devotion that the character of the men and women who have made this country great has been molded.

The tenth fold is a tribute to the father, for he, too, has given his sons and daughters for the defense of our country since they were first born.

The eleventh fold, in the eyes of a Hebrew citizen represents the lower portion of the seal of King David and King Solomon, and glorifies in their eyes, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

The twelfth fold, in the eyes of a Christian citizen, represents an emblem of eternity and glorifies in their eyes, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

When the flag is completely folded, the stars are uppermost reminding us of our nation's motto, "In God We Trust."

Sweet revenge

Johnny had just received his first drivers license at age 17. On Sunday morning, heading to the church, the family trooped out to the driveway, and climbed in the car for him to take them for a ride. Dad immediately headed for the back seat, directly behind the newly minted driver.

“I’ll bet you’re back there, Dad, to get a change of scenery after all those months of sitting in the front passenger seat teaching me how to drive,” said Johnny smilingly to his father.

“Nope,” his dad replied. “I’m gonna sit here and kick the back of your seat, Johnny, as you drive, just like you’ve been doing to me for seventeen years.”

-----
How about you?  Do you take sweet revenge once in a while?

God loves you

God loves you.  In fact, God loves everyone - including bad little boys and girls.

For instance, as a loving parent, you love your children, no matter what they do. If they're bad, you still love them. But when that child consistently obeys you, you appreciate that child even more! Why? Because that child is saying, "I trust you enough to do what you're asking me to do!" Life is better for them, and for you, when they do.

It's the same way with God. God loves all of us even when we're bad. But, God surely does love it more when we're obedient to Him. Because God knows that when we trust Him, we really do love Him! He appreciates that, like any parent would.

Remember the song - Jesus loves me?  Check out the last verse.

Jesus loves me! this I know,
For the Bible tells me so.
Little ones to Him belong;
they are weak but He is strong.

Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
The Bible tells me so.

......
.......
.........
............

Jesus loves me when I'm good.
When I do the things I should.
Jesus loves me when I'm bad,
but it makes him oh so sad.

Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
The Bible tells me so.

Saudi plans world's tallest tower

This morning, I read in WSJ about an upcoming project - world's tallest building.

Saudi Arabia's Prince Alwaleed bin Talal announced plans to build the world's tallest building in Jeddah less than two years after the Burj Khalifa opened in Dubai at a height that many thought wouldn't be surpassed for years.

The planned tower will soar to 3,281 feet (1,000 meters) and will include a hotel, luxury condominiums and offices. It would dwarf the Burj Khalifa, which is 2,717 feet (828 meters), and would also be the world's tallest man-made structure.

I liked the part were Antony wood made an honest statement.

"The world's tallest building has never been about making the maximum financial return," says Antony Wood, executive director of the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat. "It's about ego. It's about attention. It's about making a statement."

Rainbow

Showers followed by a brilliant sun is a perfect formula for rainbows. The sight of a rainbow is so beautiful and powerful, that it is often used in the Bible as a reminder of God's covenant with us and of our reconciliation and peace through Jesus.

Did you know, there are three prominent use of the rainbow in the beginning, middle, and end of scripture?

Near the beginning in Genesis, God sends a rainbow as His covenant that He will never flood the earth again.

Around the middle, in Ezekiel, the rainbow symbolizes the coming of Christ, and to declare the glory of God.

In Revelation, John described Christ as "clothed with a cloud and a rainbow on His head," a symbol of peace and reconciliation with God.

God gave us the rainbow as a symbol of the trustworthiness of His promises - as a symbol of hope in Him.

When is the last time you saw a rainbow?  If you stay indoors, the chances of seeing one is quite negligible.

Lord of Lords

Beholding Your beauty
Is all that I long for
To worship You Jesus
Is my sole desire
For this very heart
You have shaped for be your pleasure
Purposed to lift Your Name higher

Here in surrender
In pure adoration
I enter Your courts
With an offering of praise
I am Your servant
Come to bring You glory
As is fit for the work of Your hands

Now unto the Lamb
Who sits on the throne
Be glory and honor and praise
All of creation resounds with the song
Worship and praise Him
The Lord of lords

Spirit now living
And dwelling within me
Keep my eyes fixed
Ever on Jesus’ face
Let not the things of this world
Ever sway me
I’ll run ’til I finish the race

Unto the Lamb
Who sits on the throne
Be glory and honor and praise
All of creation resounds with the song
Worship and praise
The Lord

Now unto the Lamb
Who sits on the throne
Be glory and honor and praise
All of eternity echoes the song
Worship and praise Him
The Lord of lords

Holy Lord
You are holy
Jesus Christ
Is the Lord (3)

Now unto the Lamb
Who sits on the throne
Be glory and honour and praise
Call all the sinners to join in the song
Worship and praise Him

The Lord of lords
The Lord of lords
The Lord of lords
The Lord of lords

Kids say

One day a kindergarten teacher said to the class, "I'll give $2 to the child who can tell me who was the most famous man who ever lived."

An Irish boy put his hand up and said, "It was St. Patrick."

The teacher said, "Sorry Sean, that's not correct."

Then a Scottish boy put his hand up and said, "It was St. Andrew."

The teacher replied, "I'm sorry, Hamish, that's not right either."

Finally, a Jewish boy raised his hand and said, "It was Jesus Christ."

The teacher said, "That's absolutely right, Marvin, come up here and I'll give you the $2."

As the teacher was giving Marvin his money, she said, "You know Marvin, you being Jewish, I was very surprised you said Jesus Christ."

Marvin replied, "Yeah. In my heart I knew it was Moses, but business is business..."

God with a brain

Remember seeing this picture - it's the creation picture originally drawn by Michelangelo on the Sistine Chapel ceiling.  Some Neurologists have discovered Michelangelo's this painting Of God with a brain.

According to them, the painting actually depicts God bestowing intellect on man, arguing that Adam’s eyes are open in the painting, God and the angels take on the distinct shape of a brain, and that Michelangelo was well aware of human anatomy from the many cadavers he dissected in his study of the human form for his art.

Click here to read the New York Times article titled, 'Michelangelo, Renaissance Man of the Brain, Too?'

Here is the Wellcorps article by Dr. Frank Lynn Meshberger - I am no expert on medical terms and could not understand this article 100% (my biology days are bit far stretched).  If you can comprehend medical terms, take a look at this article - it contains lot more info.  Some find it fascinating, other call it 'brainy' and yet others describe it as, 'cooler than the DaVinci Code.'

To me, if you love art, you will appreciate it.

Be an inspiration to others

Do you know how to turn around life - especially a setback into a comeback?

Lance Armstrong is a modern day hero, who won several Tour de France trophies.  Imagine biking over 2,000 miles on some of the steepest roads in the world - especially the Alps.  What makes Armstrong such a hero is that, in October 1996 he was diagnosed as having testicular cancer, with a tumor that had metastasized to his brain and lungs. His cancer treatments included brain and testicular surgery and extensive chemotherapy, and his prognosis was originally poor. He turned a setback into a comeback. What a hero!

How about you? Are you facing any setbacks in your life? Is someone or something bothering you in your life?

Anyone who has had a major set-back in life knows this feeling all too well. On one level, you can understand the desire to get moving again. But on the other level, there’s a deeper, more hidden craving. You know you’re ready for a comeback. But you’re still drained and haunted by emotions, questions, shame and blame.

A key to victorious living is learning how to turn a setback into a comeback. Faith in God is a tremendous help in doing so. If you ever have a setback, ask God to help you transform your setback into a comeback. And when you do, you'll become a hero and inspiration to several people around you.
