Your donations

Often times, we hear churches and non-profit organizations approaching us for donations to help them fund their projects. As good citizens, we open our pockets for another natural disaster that is sure to come, consoling ourselves, "Well, I am donating it for God's work, and for a good cause." While doing so, keep these facts in mind and it might help you consider where your hard earned donations should go.

Marsha J. Evans, President and CEO of the American Red Cross: salary for year was $651,957 plus expenses.

Brian Gallagher, President of the United Way receives a $432,709 in salary and benefits.

UNICEF CEO receives $1.2 Million per year plus all expenses and a Rolls Royce wherever he goes.

The Salvation Army’s Commissioner Todd Bassett receives a salary of only $13,000 per year plus housing for managing this $2 billion dollar organization.

Your money; your call.

Lucky day

Here is a lucky guy.  He broke through the guardrail, on the right side where people are standing on the road (pointing). The pick-up was traveling from right to left when it crashed through the guardrail. It flipped end-over-end, across the culvert outlet, and landed right side up on the left side of the culvert, facing the opposite direction from which he was traveling. Lucky day- isn't it?

Now, scroll down to see another view - the big picture!

Please pay attention while you are driving - especially on unknown terrains.

A wife's promise

Once upon a time, there was an old man who worked all his life and saved all his money. He was a miser, he lived like a pauper, he hardly had food, but he loved his money more than just about anything else in the world.

Just before he died, he said to his wife, "When I die, I want you to take all my money and put it in the casket with me. I need my money in the afterlife. Can you promise me that you'll do that?"

His wife was faithful, so she promised him with all her heart that when he died, she would put all his money in the casket.

When the old man died his wife arranged him a proper funeral. He was laid out in a beautiful casket and his faithful wife was in the front row at the funeral parlor dressed in black, sitting beside her best friend. Just before the undertakers got ready to close the casket, the wife rose from her seat and said, "Wait just a minute!"

With that, she placed a box inside the casket. Then the undertakers locked the casket and rolled it away for burial.

The friend grabbed the wife by the arm and said, "Girl, I know you weren't fool enough to put all that money in the casket with him, were you?'

The wife said to her friend, "Listen, I am a Christian woman and I can never lie. I promised him that I was going to put the money in his casket with him and I did."

The friend was horrified and asked, "You mean to tell me that you put all that money in the casket with him?"

The wife replied, "I sure did - I wrote him a check."

Love holds us together

There is something in life that needs to be held together - people. We need to be close to people. If we are not, life becomes very sad and lonely. We need to be close to our family, to our friends, and to our fellow church members and many others.

Love is something that holds people together better than anything else! Love is the best tape, the best glue, the best staple, the best bolt that you can find to keep you close to people.

There are other things that we sometimes think keeps us close to others but they don’t work as well as love. You may think that it’s because you go to the same gathering or live on the same street that you are friends with a certain person, but if that is all that makes you friends it will be over with the first time you have a serious fight.

Sometimes we think we are close friends with someone because we like the same sport or the same games but this usually doesn’t last either. Even living in the same house with your family will not automatically make you close to them.

In every case what we really need is love for that person. No matter what you like doing with someone close to you, just remember that to love that person is the most important thing of all.

Love will be the tape, the glue, the staple, the bolt that holds us together in unity.

White hair

One day, a girl walk to her mother and looked at her mother's hair and said sadly, "Why are some of your hair white mom?"

The mother replied, "Well, every time when you do something wrong and make me cry or unhappy, one of my hairs turns white.

The girl thought about this revelation a while, and then said, "Momma, how come ALL of grandma's hairs are white?"

Plus Ultra

In Valladolid, Spain, where Christopher Columbus died in 1506, stands a monument commemorating the great discoverer. The most interesting feature of the memorial is a statue of a lion destroying one of the Latin words that had been part of Spain's motto for centuries.

Before Columbus made his voyages, the Spaniards thought they had reached the outer limits of earth. Thus their motto was "NE PLUS ULTRA," which means "No More Beyond."

The word being torn away by the lion is "NE" or "no," making it read "Plus Ultra." Columbus had proven that there was indeed "more beyond."

Most people mistakenly assume they have seen all there is to see, know all there is to know, and have conquered all there is to conquer. Their life motto is: "NE PLUS ULTRA - No More Beyond." But yours can be different!

Make your motto: "PLUS ULTRA - More Beyond."
Be the Christopher Columbus in the lives of those around you. With your example, show them there is more to know and achieve.

Prepare your heart for discovery.
Set your eyes on the horizon.
Launch out into the world.
You will discover not only new worlds, but a new you.

Acceptance

One Sunday at a church service a young woman felt the tug of God at her heart. She responded to God’s call and accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior. The young woman had a very rough past (too many things to list).  But, the change in her was evident.

As time went on she became a faithful member of the church. She eventually became involved in the ministry, teaching young children.

It was not very long until this faithful young woman had caught the eye and heart of the pastor’s son. The relationship grew and they began to make wedding plans. This is when the problems began.

About one half of the church members did not think that a woman with a past such as hers was suitable for a pastor’s son. The church began to argue and fight about the matter. So they decided to have a meeting. As the people made their arguments and tensions increased, the meeting was getting completely out of hand.

The young woman became very upset about all the things being brought up about her past. As she began to cry, the pastor’s son stood to speak. He could not bear the pain it was causing his wife-to-be. He began to speak and his statement was this:

“My fiance’s past is not what is on trial here. What you are questioning is the ability of the blood of Jesus to wash away sin. Today you have put the blood of Jesus on trial. So, does it wash away sin or not?”

The entire church kept quiet.

Possible

The teacher asked her class what each wanted to become when they grew up. A chorus of responses came from all over the room.

"A football player," "A doctor," "An astronaut," "The president," "A fireman," "A teacher," "A race car driver."

Everyone that is, except Tommy.

The teacher noticed he was sitting there quiet and still.

So she said to him, "Tommy, what do you want to be when you grow up?"

"Possible" Tommy replied.

"Possible?" asked the teacher.

"Yes," Tommy said. "My mom is always telling me I'm impossible. So when I get to be big, I want to be possible."

.

Past

I wish there were some wonderful place,
Called the Land of Beginning Again,
Where all of our past mistakes and heartaches,
And all of our poor selfish grief,
Could be dropped like a shabby old coat at the door,
And never be put on again.

Trust

One day a father took his young son out and stood him on the balcony railing of the back porch. He then went down, stood on the lawn, and encouraged the little fellow to jump into his arms.

"Jump down and I'll catch you," the father said confidently.

After a lot of coaxing, the little boy finally made the leap. When he did, the father stepped back and let the child fall to the ground. He then picked his son up, dusted him off, and dried his tears.

"Let that be a lesson," he said sternly. "Don't ever trust anyone."

Doubt vs Faith - the upward road

Doubt sees the obstacles,
Faith sees the open way;
Doubt sees the darkest night,
Faith sees the sunlit day.
Doubt dreads to take the step,
Faith sings and soars on high;
Doubt questions “Who believes?”
Faith answers, “Even I.”

I’m on the upward way,
For that still holds the sun;
I climb through night pastures,
Where the starry river runs.
And if you seek me,
In my old and dark abode,
‘Tis written over the door,
“I’m on the upward road.”

Yes, I am on the upward road towards faith.  Certainly NOT on the path of doubt.

5 bottles of wine

Once, a lady in the north of England said that every time she got down before God to pray, five bottles of wine came up before her mind. She had stolen them wrongfully one time when she was a housekeeper, and had not been able to pray since. She was advised by the priest to make a restitution.

"But the person is dead," she said.
"Are not some of the heirs living?" asked the priest
"Yes, a son," answered the lady.
"Then go to that son and pay him back," said the priest.

"Well," she said, "I want to see the face of God, but I could not think of doing a thing like that. My reputation is at stake."

She went away, and came back the next day to ask if it would not do just as well to put that money in the treasury of the Lord.

"No," she was told, "God doesn't want any stolen money. The only thing is to make restitution."

She carried that burden for several days, but finally went into the country, saw that son, made a full confession and offered him a five-pound note - equivalent to those five bottles of wine. He said he didn't want the money, but she finally persuaded him to take it, and came back with a joy and peace that made her face radiant. She became a magnificent worker for souls, and led many into the light.

Let us get these stumbling stones out of the way. God does not want a man to shout "Hallelujah" who doesn't pay his debts. Many of our prayer gatherings are killed by people trying to pray who cannot pray because their lives are not right. Sin builds up a great wall between God and us.  A person may stand high in the community and may be a member of some church "in good standing," but the real question is,

"How does he/she stand in the sight of God?"

Doubt

Let me meet you on the mountain, Lord,
Just once.
You wouldn't have to burn a whole bush.
Just a few smoking branches
And I would surely be ...your Moses.

Let me meet you on the water, Lord,
Just once.
It wouldn't have to be on White Rock Lake.
Just on a puddle after the annual Dallas rain
And I would surely be...your Peter.

Let me meet you on the road, Lord,
Just once.
You wouldn't have to blind me on North Central Expressway.
Just a few bright lights on the way to chapel
And I would surely be...your Paul.

Let me meet you, Lord,
Just once.
Anywhere. Anytime.
Just meeting you in the Word is so hard sometimes
Must I always be...your 'doubting Thomas?'

Focus

A weakness of all human beings, " Henry Ford said, "is trying to do too many things at once. That scatters effort and destroys direction. It makes for haste, and haste makes waste. So we do things all the wrong ways possible before we come to the right one. Then we think it is the best way because it works, and it was the only way left that we could see. Every now and then I wake up in the morning headed toward that finality, with a dozen things I want to do. I know I can't do them all at once."

When asked what he did about that, Ford replied, "I go out and trot around the house. While I'm running off the excess energy that wants to do too much, my mind clears and I see what can be done and should be done first."

Attitude

There once was a woman who woke up one morning, looked in the mirror, and noticed she had only three hairs on her head.

"Well," she said, "I think I’ll braid my hair today." So she did and she had a wonderful day.

The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and saw that she had only two hairs on her head.

"Hmm",’ she said, "I think I’ll part my hair down the middle today." So she did and she had a grand day.

The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and noticed that she had only one hair on her head.

"Well," she said, "Today I’m going to wear my hair in a pony tail." So she did, and she had a fun, fun day.

The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and noticed that there wasn’t a single hair on her head.

"YAY!" she exclaimed. "I don’t have to fix my hair today!"

Attitude is everything.

Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle. Live simply, Love generously, Care deeply, Speak kindly.

Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass. It’s about learning to dance in the rain, and walking through the rainbow.
