Holidays

Wish you a happy memorial day. Let's pay homage to those who laid down their lives for the sake of this country - tens of thousands of them. We are enjoying our fruits of freedom as a result of their valuable sacrifices. Their family members have mourned a lot when they lost their dear ones, brave and bold, young and old, and those scars will never fade away. Couple of years ago, we spent the memorial day at the Arlington National Cemetry and had an opportunity to observe the activities there - it is a rather sorrowful one. For their sacrifices, let us pray for a mere 10 seconds in our minds,

"God, may those souls rest in peace, and provide comfort to their families"

I have not had a chance to update this blog, and will not be able to do so in the next couple of days, due to holidays. Please check back early next week.

Angels - Part 2a

Here is another story, a variation to Angels Part - 2, that I came across during my research. This story is based on the assumption that there were eight Archangels in the begining, instead of three. Even though this story is not supported (or opposed) by theological pundits, I wish this was what actually happened. The story also reinforces the fact that God has full control over what is 'not good', the creation of 'not good' was part of the 'Divine Drama' and in the end, everything will converge into one. One reason for me even to consider this story is because God send his son Jesus Christ to earth to suffer and to help mankind. If you think on those lines, the story will make sense. Here is how it goes:

It was only a few days into the beginning that God realized that there was a necessity for a meeting of all of the angelic realm and a consensus reached if duality (one of His better creations) was going to succeed. He sent out a memo letting each of the cherubim, seraphim, thrones, powers, archangels and angels of all degrees know that a meeting was being called in THE BOARD ROOM and that a great decision was to be made.

The entire angelic realm showed up on the appointed day (of course, since they only know the Divine Will) and each angel was intently curious about what the question was going to be that could be SO important that God would call every single angel into this meeting. They were arranged by rank with the most important archangels seated nearest the throne of Almighty Source. Everyone was there - Uriel, Metatron, Gabriel, Ariel, Raphael, Michael, Lucifer, Samiel - all of the mighty names appeared in person to sit next to the throne of God as He called the meeting to order.

"We have before us a very grave decision. I am going to need the help of every angel of every rank. It seems that there is a piece of duality that has not been created and I am not going to create it Myself. It takes something and someone much more important to create this piece. It has to do with the planet Earth in the Milky Way Galaxy which is going to form in another several billion years. This planet is going to be the home of a particular creation that is going to experience duality for Me. And there is the rub. I AM ONE and I need to be dual to create the opposite so that the creation which will be called Man will be able to learn by contrast how to experience the Love that I AM."

All of this God said and not an angel spoke a word. You could have heard a pin drop (if there were a pin TO drop) it was so silent.

God continued, "I am calling for a volunteer. I need one angel, most likely an archangel, to hold the opposite end of the energy vibration that is known as Love. I need an angel who is strong enough, bright enough and who loves Source enough that it can hold the opposite end of the energy spectrum which will be called Fear. This angel must be capable of enduring endless hardship, be hated by mankind as the most abominable entity imaginable, have horrible actions done in its name and be thought of as the ruler of a place mankind will create called Hell. All of this must this angel do out of love for mankind so that my second finest creation (angels being the first) may come to know what Love really is, experience a polar world and allow Source to truly experience ALL."

After this last part of the announcement, a loud shuffling of chairs was heard as many of the angels of all ranks and dominions left the Board Room Chamber. No one wanted to take the part that would be the opposite of Love for that would be like taking the part that would be the opposite of God. By the time silence was again "heard", there were very few angels left and only a handful of higher or archangels. Some of the cherubim and seraphim had also stayed though they were of no mind to take on this part in the Divine Play. God sat looking at what was left of the "staff" and held the Divine Space for someone to come forward. And then a voice was heard. It was a mighty voice, one like the north wind when it blows through the tundras in Alaska through the wet, cold nights. It was the voice of Lucifer.

"I will play this part with you, Oh Mighty One. My love for You and my love for your creations knows no bounds. I KNOW that I AM strong enough for you have made me that strong. I KNOW that I have enough love to hold the opposite energetic end of Love for you have created within me ever-enduring Love and I will not forget Who I AM for I AM You - as are all of your creations. I have the strength, the brightness, the might and the courage to hold the opposite end of Love with you, God, for all eternity if that is what is required."

God was SO pleased. His best, his brightest, his bravest archangel was going to take the job and hold the opposite end with and for Him. He had really created WELL! It looked like the Board Meeting could come to an end and God was about to adjourn the few remaining members when it became apparent that Lucifer had another few words to say - and these words were to Archangel Michael.

"Michael, my brother," he said, "I have one reminder for you before we part. I am going to a place where you cannot go. I am going alone. We will meet many times upon the path before this Play is over. I ask that you remember that we are the same every time you see my face. I ask that every time you raise your sword at me in the name of Source, you remember I AM Source. If you will remember to do this, mankind will learn the lesson of contrast more gracefully and my job will be made easier. Will you agree to this?"

And Michael, as great an archangel as Lucifer himself, knelt on one knee before his Mighty, Courageous Brother and bowing his head, he said,

"Yes, I will agree. Give me your blessing before we begin our roles in this Divine Drama."

And, as Lucifer placed his hand upon Archangel Michael's head, the horns of triumph could be heard blowing throughout the entire Universe for now God's plan was complete and mankind would be born - born into duality, into a world of polarity, so that Source could experience what it is like to separate and then, once again, become One.

Angels - Part 2

The Archangels God created were His very special friends and were beautiful, shining, strong and powerful. Michael was "the Angel of the Lord", who was later sent to Moses and Jacob and Abraham and to other people throughout the history of the world. Gabriel was the one that God sent to St. Mary to declare that She was to become the Mother of Jesus Christ. Lucifer was God’s favorite and mightiest Archangel. Lucifer was so beautiful that the other Angels called him the Son of the Morning. Hence, Lucifer was given almost equal power that God had, and was in full control over Earth and all it’s belongings.

Well, everybody was very happy because they were with God, and they all loved him, because he had made them so Strong and Shining and Lovely. They were merry because there were no worries in heaven. The Archangels were right with God when He created the entire universe. They were observers of God’s creation. They were happy with God when each of the creation was complete. God created other angels as well. The other angels were helping the three Archangels. The Angels and Archangels, along with other angels were happy in Heaven. This happiness continued until the day humans were created in God’s own image. God proclaimed humans as the crown of His creation. God said that human beings were flawless. God loved human beings more than any other creation. This worried Lucifer, and he did not like it very much. Lucifer did not think that human beings were perfect. This, according to religious scholars was the first disagreement between God and Lucifer. The disagreement later resulted in the great battle in the Heaven. The battle was fought between Michael and Lucifer, and in the end, Lucifer and his followers was driven out of Heaven into earth, where Lucifer was already the prince. Lucifer took one third of the angels with him when he left heaven.

God did not remove any of Lucifer’s powers or the powers of those angels that followed Lucifer. Lucifer after being driven out of heaven is referred to as the ‘fallen angel’ and those angels that followed Lucifer are now called ‘demons’ – meaning bad angels. Lucifer and his demons till this day try to prove that human beings are not perfect. Being the prince of the world, Lucifer and his army has full command over the planet.

Who is the Boss - Dad or Mom

Recently, Readers Digest conducted a survey around the world, "Who is the boss in your family". They surveyed 16 countries around the world. In 11 of those countries surveyed, Dad took the prize as head of the household. But in five countries Mom won. The graph reads countries on the x-axis, while the y-axis indicates votes received by Dad in %.

Notice two countries - India and United States. In India, Dads won by a big margin - 69% among all countries surveyed globally; whereas in United States, Mom won and Dad received only 42% of the votes.

Present

Here is an ecouraging story:

Two men, both seriously ill, occupied the same hospital room. One man was allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour each afternoon to help drain the fluid from his lungs. His bed was next to the room's only window. The other man had to spend all his time flat on his back. The men talked for hours on end. They spoke of their wives and families, their homes, their jobs, their involvement in the military service, where they had been on vacation.

And every afternoon when the man in the bed by the window could sit up, he would pass the time by describing to his roommate all the things he could see outside the window. The man in the other bed began to live for those one-hour periods where his world would be broadened and enlivened by all the activity and color of the world outside.

The window overlooked a park with a lovely lake. Ducks and swans played on the water while children sailed their model boats. Young lovers walked arm in arm amidst flowers of every color of the rainbow. Grand old trees graced the landscape, and a fine view of the city skyline could be seen in the distance.

As the man by the window described all this in exquisite detail, the man on the other side of the room would close his eyes and imagine the picturesque scene.

One warm afternoon the man by the window described a parade passing by. Although the other man couldn't hear the band - he could see it in his mind's eye as the gentleman by the window portrayed it with descriptive words.

Days and weeks passed.

One morning, the day nurse arrived to bring water for their baths only to find the lifeless body of the man by the window, who had died peacefully in his sleep. She was saddened and called the hospital attendants to take the body away. As soon as it seemed appropriate, the other man asked if he could be moved next to the window. The nurse was happy to make the switch, and after making sure he was comfortable, she left him alone.

Slowly, painfully, he propped himself up on one elbow to take his first look at the world outside. Finally, he would have the joy of seeing it for himself. He strained to slowly turn to look out the window beside the bed. It faced a blank wall.

The man asked the nurse what could have compelled his deceased roommate who had described such wonderful things outside this window. The nurse responded that the man was blind and could not even see the wall. She said, "Perhaps he just wanted to encourage you."

Epilogue. . . .There is tremendous happiness in making others happy, despite our own situations. Shared grief is half the sorrow, but happiness when shared, is doubled. If you want to feel rich, just count all of the things you have that money can't buy. "Today is a gift, that's why it is called the PRESENT".

Commencement speech

It's graduation time and we hear lots of commencement speeches. One of the very best ones I have ever heard is the one Steve Jobs of Apple Computer delivered at Stanford University in 2005.

For our class on death on Jan 11, 2009, I actually used some quotes from this very speech. Click here to read the transcript of Steve Job's speech at Stanford. If you prefer watching it on youtube, click here.

However, I would recommend reading the actual transcript even after you watch it - parts of it will certainly sink into your mind.

Pick your school

A new law passed in Georgia breaks the shackles of the so called 'school boundary lines'. Gov. Sonny Perdue signed a law last week that allows parents to pick any schools for their children in the district, by obtaining a transfer.

There is a huge debate going over this new rule. The law is going into effect next school year. Click here to read the full article. There are some grey areas in the law - so does every new law that's signed. If you have been looking for such an opportunity, you need to act now.

While this is good for the parents and kids, the housing market may feel the pinch because the house prices were staying up historically due to those elite school boundaries.

Keeping pace with IT

The rate at which Information Technology (IT) evolves is hard to keep up with. IT keeps accelerating at a tremendous pace.
The two major fronts, most of us should keep pace are:
(a) Computer related technologies – internet and software
(b) Consumer driven IT – such as iPods, iTunes, Apple, etc.

One way to keep pace is by extensive reading and researching. However, the younger generation seems to know what’s latest. I rely on young members on my team to learn what’s new in their world.

Angels - Part 1

I have been reading quite a bit about Angels these past days. In order to get a better view about Angels, my journey took me through few theological readings as well religions outside Christianity such as Judaism, Islam, and Zoroastrianism . The below excerpts are based on what I gathered during that journey. I have tried to condense what I learned by omitting numerous details. This would be part 1 of the series.

God created angels before creating humans. Humans are considered one step lower than angels. Angels serve as messengers of God, they save the people of God and serve to carry out God's will. Apart from these tasks, angels serve as guardian angels to individuals and society. There are certain differences as well as similarties between Angels and humans.

Among the differences, Angels are bodiless and invisible to human eyes. Without the bodies, they do not have bodily needs. Angels are immortal, and always young and beautiful. They do not marry nor give birth to young angels. Angels can take whatever form they choose to be.

Similarities include intelligence, feelings, emotions, free will and the capacity to act. Each angel is conscious about itself. Most Angels have their names ending in ‘el’ – which means closer to God. Most angels have masculine names, while Archangel Gabriel is considered feminine.

There are three hierarchies of angels – the first, second and third hierarchy.
First Hierarchy: Seraphim, Cherubim, Archangels
Second Hierarchy: Dominions, Virtues, Principalities, Rulers, Authorities, Powers, Thrones
Third Hierarchy: Angels

In general, the entire host of celestial angels in the above three hierarchies are referred to as angels.

Seraphim mentioned in Isaiah 6:1–7, are considered to be of the highest order of angels. They serve as caretakers of God's throne and continuously sing His praises. It is said that four of them surround the throne of God. Due to their closeness to God, they resemble fire. Seraphim are said to have six wings.

Cherubim are the guardians of light and the stars. They rank in the first hierarchy, and is mentioned in Genesis 3:24; Ezekiel 10:17–20 and 1 Kings 6:23–28. Cherubim are said to have several eyes, and are radiant with the knowledge and mysteries of God. Cherubim have such great understanding they know the depths of His wisdom. They filter down the Heavenly light that touches human lives. It was the Cherubim who guarded the Garden of Eden with a flaming sword, after sending Adam and Eve out of the garden.

Archangels are those angels who interact with humans and hence all of us have heard about them in the Bible. Archangels act as the administrative leaders of the Heavenly beings. An archangel is usually given a task of great importance to humans. It is believed that there were three archangels in the beginning – Michael, Gabriel and Lucifer. Some literature mentions Lucifer as Sataniel.
